B.C. students support Nicaraguan schools

Hope Lutheran Christian School students Stephanie Malmberg and Juliana Besler and the school supplies headed for Nicaragua

Students and staff at Hope Lutheran Christian School in Port Coquitlam, B.C. and staff at Zion Lutheran School in Cloverdale, B.C. gave from their hearts as they gathered an offering of gifts for fellow students and staff of the Lutheran schools in Iglesia Luterana Sínodo de Nicaragua. The school sent thousands of sheets of paper, hundreds of pencils, pens, rulers, markers, crayons, stickers along with skipping ropes, bean bags, and other supplies to the teachers and students.  Students and parents also collected a small gift for each deaconess.

A team, under the leadership of Lynn Gergens (Walnut Grove Lutheran Church, Langley, B.C.) and Pastor Wayne Lunderby (St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Chilliwack, B.C.),  travelled to Nicaragua in May to work with fellow Christians, assisting in building a community centre, helping with repairs where needed, and holding vacation Bible schools with several congregations. They also conducted workshops for the church workers in Nicaragua.
