Call for nominations for LCC’s 2014 National Convention

lcc-logoCANADA – As Lutheran Church–Canada (LCC) begins preparations for 2014’s National Convention in Vancouver, B.C., the church is calling on its members to prayerfully consider nominations for synod’s boards and offices. In July, LCC sent a letter to all congregations inviting them to recommend candidates by September 30.

Any LCC member may recommend one or more persons for nominations to the following offices; they do not require a congregational vote. Descriptions of the offices and the responsibilities and qualifications for nominees are available here.

  1. Board of Directors
To be elected: 1 lay person Central; 2 lay people East; 1 pastor at large
  2. Commission on Adjudication
To be elected: 2 pastors serving congregations; 1 lay person
  3. Commission on Theology and Church Relations
To be elected: 2 pastors serving congregations; 1 lay person
  4. Board of Regents, Concordia Lutheran Seminary (Edmonton, Alberta)
To be elected: 2 pastors; 1 lay/deacon (two from ABC; one from central)
  5. Board of Regents, Concordia Lutheran Theological Seminary (St. Catharines, Ontario)
To be elected: 1 pastor; 2 lay/deacon (one from Central; two from East)
  6. Board of Regents, Concordia University College of Alberta (Edmonton, Alberta)
To be elected: 2 pastors; 1 lay person

Nominations should be recorded on this form and sent to the Committee of Convention Nominations, care of LCC’s office in Winnipeg. The Committee will then select nominees and alternates from the recommendations submitted. Additional nominations may be made from the floor of the convention provided the candidate has given written consent. Recommendations are due by September 30, 2013.

Not all candidates for elected office are nominated through the above described process.  The offices of President and Vice-Presidents are nominated through a separate process, where a congregational vote is needed to nominate candidates. At a later date, each congregation will be sent an official nominating ballot for these offices.
