Canadian Lutheran publishes 1,000th article online

canluthONLINE – On August 14, The Canadian Lutheran published its 1,000th article online: “Job and the Monsters: A review of Pacific Rim.”

The Canadian Lutheran, the national magazine of Lutheran Church–Canada (LCC), first began publishing online on January 9, 2009. Dr. Ian Adnams—president of The Canadian Church Press—was editor of The Canadian Lutheran at the time, and explains the decision to add an internet counterpart to the magazine in this way: “LCC has been online since 1996, including a website, PDF edition of the magazine, and the InfoDigest mailing list. Adding www.canadianlutheran.ca was a natural progression in LCC’s communication strategy.”

While the print edition of The Canadian Lutheran continues to run just under 20,000 copies per bi-monthly issue, the website opens up the magazine to an expanded audience. It also allows for the publication of a greater number of articles than the print edition is able to contain, giving print subscribers a reason to follow the website as well.

Readership online since January has seen an average of more than 6,750 people per month read articles ranging from news and reflections on Pope Benedict’s resignation, praying the Psalms with the body of Christ, cooperation between confessing Anglicans and Lutherans, mission work in such places as Honduras, the latest Star Trek movie, LCC’s 25th anniversary, and much more. Genres include popular theology, feature stories, book and film reviews, mission reports, national and internal news, education highlights, and more.

The Canadian Lutheran is dedicated to providing news and views from a faithful Lutheran perspective,” said current editor Mathew Block. “As we move forward, we will continue to do just that, both in our print edition and online.”
