HIGH PRAIRIE, Alta. – On September 12, 2017, Redeemer Lutheran Church in High Prairie, Alberta celebrated the ordination and installation of Rev. Terry Goerz, the first graduate with a regionally remote ministry focus from Lutheran Church–Canada’s (LCC) Pastors with Alternate Training (PAT) program.
At seventy years old, Rev. Goerz is not your typical new pastor. “Some pastors are described as second career pastors,” he notes. “I am a fifth career pastor.” In 2011, Goerz retired from High Prairie School Division after 21 years as their Director of Facilities. He is also …

Every congregation I have been a part of, whether as a lay member or pastor, has been my family. It was in the presence of my church family that my faith was born and confirmed. Over the years, it has been through my church family that the Spirit of the Lord has nurtured my faith in the triune God.

NICARAGUA – On January 10, a team of 18 people, mostly from central Alberta, headed to Nicaragua for a mission trip. Planning for the trip had begun about a year prior, when, with the help of Dr. Neitzel, Lutheran Church–Canada’s Mission Executive, a building project had been picked and dates for the trip approved.
The project the team selected was to build a wall around the Mission Centre in Chinandega. Some of the property is being used as an orchard and garden so protection is needed. There are also many larger …

There was nothing secretive about Pentecost. Sounds of violent wind filled the house—a sign that the Spirit of the Lord was among them. Visible flames of fire rested on their heads fulfilling John the Baptist’s prophecy that Jesus would baptize with the Holy Spirit and fire. Inspiring speech flowed from the lips of Jesus’ followers as they began to speak in a variety of foreign languages.
These Spirit-filled followers spilled out into the streets of Jerusalem! There was such a ruckus that God-fearing Jews in the city for …
