FORT MCMURRAY, Alberta – Canadian Lutheran World Relief, in partnership with Lutheran Church–Canada and the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada, is implementing a project in Alberta to support people who lost their homes due to the 2016 Fort McMurray wild fire. As part of this response, CLWR is providing funds to Mennonite Disaster Service (MDS) who will be building 6-7 homes for those in need.
MDS works with volunteers to respond to disasters all over Canada and the United States, and CLWR is hoping to promote this to Lutherans who may …

EDMONTON – The Alberta-British Columbia District of Lutheran Church–Canada (LCC) and the Roman Catholic Church’s Archdiocese of Edmonton are sponsoring a joint concert to commemorate the five-hundredth anniversary of the Reformation in 2017. “With One Voice: Hymns and Choral Works of the Reformation Era” is scheduled for June 11, 2017 (2:00 p.m.) at St. Joseph’s Basilica in Edmonton.

CANADA – May 11, 2017 marked Canada’s twentieth annual national March for Life. Ever year, thousands of Canadians march through the streets of downtown Ottawa to draw attention to life issues including abortion and physician assisted suicide. The March for Life is the largest annual demonstration on Parliament Hill, though it generally garners very little media attention. This year’s theme was “Life, We Stand on Guard for Thee.”

ALBERTA and BRITISH COLUMBIA – In September 2016, Allen Schellenberg, as Lutheran Foundation Canada’s executive director, and the gift coordinator within the ABC District, attended the local meeting of pastors (a winkel) in the Vancouver and Fraser Valley Circuits with 14 congregations represented. His goal was to give them a short presentation on planned giving, as well as an overview of what was covered in the Foundation’s three-hour seminar on Christian estate planning.

EDMONTON – Grammy-award-winning musician David Ellefson of Megadeth will give a lecture entitled “From Megadeth to Megalife” at Concordia University of Edmonton on March 17, 2017 at 4:00 p.m..
In addition to being a long-standing member of the band Megadeth, Ellefson has also studied at Concordia Lutheran Seminary in St. Louis, and is the founder of MEGA Life ministries, a satellite of Shepherd of the Desert Church (a member of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod) in Scotsdale, Arizona.
