EDMONTON – Rev. Dr. Edward Kettner has announced his retirement from Concordia Lutheran Seminary (CLS) at the end of the current academic year after 27 years teaching there. “Since I joined the faculty at the beginning of the fourth academic year, and we are now in the thirtieth,” Dr. Kettner notes in the Winter 2014 issue of CLS’ newsletter, “I have had the privilege of teaching almost every graduate of the seminary, missing just a few at the beginning.”

Dr. Kettner is Professor of Systematic Theology at CLS. Among his long and varied service to the seminary, he has also served as Academic Dean (2000-2011) and Acting President (2005-2007). He has been a guest instructor and visiting scholar at Concordia Seminary (St. Louis, Missouri), Luther Seminary (Adelaide, Australia), Concordia Seminary (Odessa, Ukraine), Westfield House (Cambridge, England), Concordia College (Edmonton, Alberta), and Luther Institute Southeast Asia (Thailand).

“God called me as seminary professor,” Dr. Kettner writes. “That call has given me other opportunities for serving the mission of the church: lecturing and teaching throughout the world, serving on LCC’s Commission on Theology and Church Relations, attending and even assisting in planning several of the International Lutheran Council’s World Seminaries Conferences, and others. Through these, I have made friends in Christ throughout the world.”

“Though I am retiring and we are planning on moving from Edmonton, I trust that God will continue to provide avenues of service for me,” Dr. Kettner concludes. “The knowledge and attitude He has instilled in me, the love for the Good News of salvation, will continue to lead me as I move forward into new ventures.”
