Easter Sunrise Service for intercultural congregation

The pre-dawn gathering of Easter Sunrise marchers.

ETOBICOKE, Ont. – A candlelight procession down Islington Avenue marked the beginning of an intercultural Easter Sunrise Service conducted in Urdu and Hindi, April 24.

Candlelight marchers sang and shouted “Praise to the risen Christ.”

The celebration began at the intersection of Albion Road and Islington Avenue at 5:45 a.m. Pastor Greg Johnson (Our Saviour, Etobicoke)  joined GTA missionary-at-large Rev. James Luke and Missionary Joseph Singh and others from as far as Orangeville for the two-block walk. “With candles in our hands, singing and shouting ‘Praise to the risen Christ’ we walked down to Our Saviour Church,” reports Rev. Luke.

As planned, the service began at 6:30 a.m. where 40 worshippers greeted Easter with exuberant music. After the service, the congregation enjoyed a hot Pakistani/Indian traditional breakfast of Halwa Puri. This was followed by English breakfast and English service.
