First Calls for 2015’s Pastoral Candidates

clerical-collarCANADA – Concordia Lutheran Seminary (CLS – Edmonton) and Concordia Lutheran Theological Seminary (CLTS – St. Catharines, Ontario) held their annual graduation ceremonies on May 29 and May 30 respectively, during which time they announced the first calls of pastors.

Among those participating in CLTS’ call service were a Pastors with Alternate Training (PAT) student who completed his PAT program in residence at CLTS and a graduate of the 2013 class who had deferred placement at the time. The following pastoral candidates received first calls.

  • Aaron Astley (CLS): Redeemer/Christ Our Saviour, Hamilton/Grimsby, Ontario
  • Cody Cooper (CLS): La Ronge Lutheran Fellowship, La Ronge, Saskatchewan
  • Scott Gamble (CLS): Grace Lutheran, Drumheller, Alberta
  • Eric Moffet (CLS): Associate Pastor, Foothills Lutheran, Calgary, Alberta
  • James Preus (CLTS): Trinity Lutheran, Ottumwa, Iowa
  • Joseph Singh (PAT): Assistant Pastor, Our Saviour Lutheran, Etobicoke, Ontario
  • Jeff Swords (CLTS – graduated 2013): St. John Lutheran, Angola, New York

At CLS’ service, Stephanie Mayer, a graduating diaconal candidate who studied through Concordia University College of Alberta, was certified for service to Lutheran Church–Canada. Also graduating from the diaconal program this year is Gina Lougheed. Placement is pending for both candidates at this time.

Three seminary students also received vicarage assignments at CLTS’ service.

  • Milton Lam (CLTS): Trinity Lutheran, Winkler, Manitoba (Rev. Alex Klages)
