Canadian aid agency to provide first-hand update on Haiti relief

WINNIPEG – Almost nine months after an earthquake measuring 7.0 on the Richter scale devastated Haiti’s capital, Port-Au-Prince, Canadian Lutheran World Relief executive director, Robert Granke, will lead a Canadian group to examine and report on the progress of rehabilitation and rebuilding.

Joining Mr. Granke on September 28 will be Lutheran Church–Canada’s executive for Mission and Social Ministry, Rev. Dr. Leonardo Neitzel; Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada’s director of Communications and Stewardship, Trina Gallop; and CLWR Community Relations director, Tom Brook.

 “The response to the CLWR appeal for Haiti was overwhelming,” reported Mr. Granke. “The Canadian Lutheran community contributed over $1.1 million to this relief effort.” He said that in light of the response and support “there is a great appetite for a complete report of progress in Haiti” and a desire at CLWR to “provide a thorough accountability report to our constituency.”

 The group will view the challenges and successes of major partners on the front lines of relief work including the Haiti Lutheran Mission Society (a Listed Service Organization of Lutheran Church–Canada) and ACT Alliance (ACT) an international network of church-related relief organizations.
