International Lutheran Council changes management

ILC vice-chairman, Rev. Dr. Robert Bugbee; ILC executive secretary, Rev. Dr. Ralph Mayan; former ILC executive secretary Rev. Dr. Sam Nafsger; ILC chairman, Bishop Hans-Jörg Voigt

The duties of executive secretary of the International Lutheran Council officially passed into the hands of Rev. Dr. Ralph Mayan, president emeritus of Lutheran Church–Canada on February 24. Dr. Mayan takes over from Rev. Sam Nafzger who resigned last year.

The chief responsibility facing Dr. Mayan is organizing the council’s triennial international conference scheduled for Niagara Falls, Ontario in October 2012. The conference brings together leaders of 34 confessional Lutheran church bodies from around the world for theological discussion and fellowship. The former LCC president served as chairman of the ILC for ten years.

Current ILC chairman, Bishop Hans-Jörg Voigt (SELK, Germany) and vice-chairman, LCC president, Rev. Dr. Robert Bugbee met with Dr. Mayan and Dr. Nafzger in St. Louis to coordinate the administrative turnover and begin mapping out the conference.

“The ILC is blessed to have Rev. Mayan taking on this responsibility,” noted President Bugbee. “He not only brings a detailed knowledge of the ILC family and its workings, but while chairman he worked with Dr. Nafzger to organize three similar conferences.”

Dr. Mayan will commute to work via computer and the Internet from Langley, B.C. as he fulfils his new responsibilities.
