Int’l LLL convention planned for Omaha

The International Lutheran Laymen’s League will hold its 93rd annual convention July 22-25 in Omaha, Neb., under the theme “Spirit Driven,” from 2 Tim. 1:7.

This year’s convention will feature an evening of international culture and cuisine with directors of Lutheran Hour Ministries (LHM) centers from more than 30 countries.  LHM is the Int’l LLL’s worldwide media ministry.

Providing entertainment at the “Global Village” event will be dramatist Lucas Baloyi of LHM — South Africa and the Christian music group Mariachi San Pablo from El Paso, Texas.

The convention will offer 36 “Prairie Fire Workshops” on topics such as “Linking Church and Family to Equip the Generations,” “Being Prepared to Aid in Disaster,” “Youth Ministry in the 21st Century,” and “Fishing in the Waters around the Church.”

Other activities include:

  • a celebration of “The Lutheran Hour” featuring Speaker Rev. Ken Klaus and the “Parade of Nations” with flags from LHM offices worldwide.
  • The Hoffmann Society Recognition Breakfast, including an interview with Klaus and Dr. Paul Maier, son of Dr. Walter A. Maier, the first speaker of “The Lutheran Hour.”
  • a “Build-a-Float Party” with the Petal Pushers, the group of volunteers that decorates the “Lutheran Hour” float for the Tournament of Roses parade each year.
  • a servant event to gather school supplies for children in Haiti.
  • a Men’s NetWork lunch for men, and a ladies luncheon for women with Phyllis Wallace, host of LHM’s “Woman to Woman” radio program, and humorist Jan Struck.
  • a banquet, with entertainment by Struck.
  • “family night” at the Strategic Air and Space Museum.
  • opening and closing worship services.
  • early-morning walks across the Missouri River and back.

Four-day registration is $95 for adults and $65 for children age 16 and younger.  Two-day registration is $65 for adults and children.  Meals and lodging are extra.
