USA – From July 24-25 in Charleston, South Carolina, the North American Lutheran Church (NALC) held its annual convocation. Rev. Rudy Pastucha, at the time outgoing Third Vice President of Lutheran Church–Canada (LCC), was present for the event, bringing greetings from LCC.

While introducing Rev. Pastucha, Rev. David Wendel (NALC Assistant to the Bishop for Ecumenism and Ministry) noted that the dialogues between NALC and LCC “have been very fruitful.” “We do have differences,” he noted, “and some are important differences, but at the same time we have had a great sense of mutual respect for one another and the ability to work together on many different topics in our life today in this North American context.”

Reflecting on the NALC convention’s 2014 theme—“Standing With… To Withstand”—Rev. Pastucha thanked NALC for the warm relations that have emerged between the two church bodies. “We in Lutheran Church–Canada may have some differences with NALC on some issues, but a relationship of discussion has been established,” Rev. Pastucha noted in his greetings. “We look forward to continuing those discussions on a wide variety of topics.”

Inter-Lutheran consultation between NALC, LCC, and The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod began in 2011. The most recent series of meetings took place in Winnipeg during July. The next round of dialogues will be hosted by NALC in Sarasota, Florida in December.
