ST. LOUIS, Missouri – The 65th Regular Convention of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS) is currently underway in St. Louis. Opening worship was held the evening of July 20, with the first day of business taking place the next day.

Lutheran Church–Canada’s (LCC) President Robert Bugbee, who is attending part of the convention, offered Canada’s well-wishes in a letter to the LCMS.

“It is a joy to write these lines on behalf of more than 300 Lutheran Church–Canada congregations from Nova Scotia on the Atlantic to Vancouver Island on the Pacific,” he began, “as well as for all our pastors and deacons, our Concordia University College of Alberta, our Concordia seminaries at Edmonton and St. Catharines, our Council of Presidents and synodical Board of Directors.”

“This greeting is not just a formality,” President Bugbee explains in the letter. “We thank God for this opportunity to tell you how much we treasure the tie we have with you. It is not only rooted in a shared organizational past. It lives and breathes because it is rooted in Jesus Christ and in the faithful confession of His Name.”

In its first day of business, the LCMS re-elected Rev. Dr. Herbert C. Mueller Jr. as first vice-president. In the weeks leading up to the LCMS’ convention, voting delegates re-elected President Harrison to his second term as head of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod.
