Lessons from the non-rapture

What can we learn from the Harold Camping “Rapture” experience?

1.   False prophets are still with us. They aren’t confined to biblical times

2.   Teaching about the end times and the return of Christ, even with believers, is confused and littered with false teaching.

3.   Scripture interprets scripture and it is mandatory to look at the “whole counsel of God.” If Camping had taken the word of the Lord seriously about no one knowing when Christ would return, he wouldn’t have made his prediction.

4.   Believers need to know the Word of God so we aren’t led astray by those who claim to know God’s Word.

5.   The Church needs to speak God’s truth to society with integrity, love and patience

6.  The Lord gives us opportunities such as this to speak His truth to those who are questioning. We need to be ready to provide answers.

7.  Since no one knows when Jesus will return, we need to be ready, living in the power of His Word, in the forgiven comfort of His Sacraments and the fellowship of God’s people in a community of faith.

8.   While some will ridicule Harold Camping, some were followers. Pray that God will lead them to His truth.
