RICHMOND, B.C. – As athletes, coaches, support teams and thousands of winter sports fans converge on Vancouver for the opening of the 2010 Olympic Winter Games Friday, Trinity Lutheran Church in Richmond B.C. is making final preparations to welcome and host hundreds of guests at the various events it has planned during the Games. More than 400 volunteers (not quite half of the number needed) will make guests feel at home, including home baking! (Volunteer here)

The church, a congregation of Lutheran Church–Canada, is across the street from The Richmond O-Zone, a major Olympic community venue. Along with daily prayer services at noon, Trinity is operating an Internet Café, providing big-screen coverage of major events, running a pin trading kiosk, presenting dramas on the front lawn, and hosting a series of concerts. (A complete list of activities is here)

The musical events begin Sunday, February 14 with Concordia Concert Choir from Concordia University College of Alberta in Edmonton. The 30-voice choir is known for its a cappella performances and superb musicianship. LCC’s qSarah wraps up the concert series Friday, February 26 at 7 p.m. with a solo concert.

On Sunday February 21, Lutheran Church–Canada president, Rev. Robert Bugbee will preach at the 11 a.m. service. A week later, Rev. Don Schiemann, president of LCC’s Alberta-British Columbia District, will be guest preacher.

Trinity is planning to webcast its programs throughout the Games at http://www.tlc-lcc.ca/live-feed-ustream.html where this is also a full schedule of events. You can also watch online at  www.lutheranchurch.ca/video.

Hey Tininty LC – Richmond BC,
Way to go! Sorry I can’t be there to help… it looks like a fantastic series of events and opportunities to meet the athletes and spectators, share the Word and provide Christian fellowship and care to everyone who will be ‘literally’ at your door! Blessings to all participants and may the Holy Spirit be strongly present amoung you! I will be praying for your event daily that the ‘Good News’ is heard and accepted, the love of God reaches the needs of many, and that the members of Trinity and other Lutheran volunteers have their faith strengthened by their witness of the power of God at work as they share Him with others.
    Your Brother in Christ
