Lutheran women support life issues

MOOSE JAW, Sask. – During the June 11-13 LWMLC Manitoba-Saskatchewan District convention, delegates voted to grant Lutherans for Life–Canada $2500, which the organization will use to fund a crisis pregnancy helpline.

In the convention display area, participants could find an abundance of material on life issues.

The helpline piggybacks onto the services of Word of Hope (based in St. Louis, Missouri), which offers help to troubled women who are either post-abortive or dealing with a crisis pregnancy. The toll-free number (888-217-8679) is available in Canada 24/7. Word of Hope’s Grace Kearn, armed with the numbers of help agencies in Canada, refers callers to those agencies. She’s also received the names and phone numbers of Lutheran Church–Canada congregations, along with pastors’ names and telephone numbers, for further follow-up and counselling.

Statistics report that each abortion decision affects 17 or more lives. These same statistics show that as many as 43 to 60 per cent of women who have abortions identify themselves as Protestant.
Word of Hope offers help, healing and compassionate understanding. It is indeed a “word of hope” for those in desperate situations, as in Isaiah 43:25: “I am He who blots out your transgressions, for My own sake, and remembers your sin no more.”
