LWMLC Vice-President Fran Porteous presents LCC Executive for Missions and Social Ministry Leonardo Neitzel with a cheque to cover three LCC mission grants.

WINNIPEG – On October 3, Lutheran Women’s Missionary League-Canada (LWMLC) met for a series of meetings at Lutheran Church–Canada’s (LCC) synodical office in Winnipeg. The event was noteworthy in bringing together not only current leaders of LWMLC, but also past presidents for strategic planning.

During the event, Fran Porteous, Vice-President (Christian Mission) of LWLMLC presented a cheque to LCC’s Executive for Missions and Social Ministry, Rev. Dr. Leonardo Neitzel. The cheque represented the completion of three more of LWMLC’s mission grants for the 2012-15 triennium.

“Women across Canada faithfully give their mite offerings in support of the missions of Lutheran Church-Canada,” said LWMLC President Iris Barta. “What a blessing that God uses these offerings to share the gospel message in Canada and overseas.”

So far in the 2012-15 triennium, LWLMC members have, through their mite boxes, provided $10,000 for the street ministry of Rev. D.J. Kim in Regina; $15,000 for the Sewing School in Nicaragua; $9,000 to support evangelist deaconesses in Nicaragua; $12,000 for Camp Lutherland (Qu’Appelle Lake, Saskatchewan); $5,000 for social outreach programs at Our Saviour Lutheran (Etobicoke, Ontario); $10,000 to Concordia Lutheran Seminary in Odessa, Ukraine; $6,000 to support evangelist deaconesses in Thailand, $14,995 to support evangelist deaconesses in Cambodia; and $7,000 for a variety of mission opportunities in Canada.
