Plan ahead for continuing ed

Concordia Lutheran Seminary (CLS) in Edmonton is reaching beyond its campus through two new educational opportunities. The events are intended to fulfill CLS’s vision of connecting with the church through a comprehensive extension program of outreach for pastors, deacons and lay leaders.

The 2011 Pastoral Gathering takes place May 17, with the general theme “Pastor and Synod.” Pastors are encouraged to submit a thesis statement on this theme by May 1 to CLS President Dr. Manfred Zeuch at (mzeuch@concordiasem.ab.ca). Organizers will choose two submissions from clergy for open discussion in addition to two submissions from CLS faculty. There is no cost to register. Those planning to attend are asked to contact Rhonda Buck (rbuck@concordiasem.ab.ca) or 780-474-1468 ext. 225 by May 1, 2011.

CLS is also offering a Sabbatical Week program this year from June 27 to 30. Dr. Jonathan Strand, associate vice-president of Student Services and professor of Philosophy at Concordia University College of Alberta is the instructor. He will speak on the topic How do you present and defend your faith today in a skeptical environment? A course on Christian apologetics.

The Sabbatical Week program is open to pastors, deacons, and lay leaders in Lutheran churches. The cost is $250, including the barbecue, with an extra $20 cost for spouses wishing to attend the barbecue. Accommodation is not included. The deadline to register is May 27, 2011.
