Interim Canadian Missions Executive Appointed

Rev. Mark L. Smith.

WINNIPEG, MB – Lutheran Church-Canada’s International Missions Executive, Rev. M.L. Smith has been appointed by LCC’s Board of Directors to serve as Interim Assistant to the President for Domestic Missions. Along with his duties as the International Missions Executive, Rev. Smith will serve in this new role until the end of April 2020. As the Interim Canadian Missions Executive, Rev. Smith will assist the Regional Pastors and the RMMC’s with supervising and supporting our current domestic missions, visiting and encouraging our missionaries in the field, assisting and working with congregations receiving financial support from Synod, and responding to needs and identifying new mission opportunities here in Canada.

This decision was made after previous consultation of the Synod President, Administrator, and the three Regional Pastors concerning the responsibilities that the Canadian Mission Executive would undertake in the various regions. Although Rev Smith will continue to serve also as International Missions Executive, the work and time he has spent on fundraising, administration, and the PAT program that was formerly under the oversight of the Missions Executive but was handed over to our seminary in St. Catharines, will now be taken on by Lutheran Foundation Canada and the Syndical office staff.
