Seminary services and celebrations

In two special services September 12 and 13, Lutheran Church–Canada’s two seminaries launched their academic years under the theme “Let us fix our eyes on Jesus.” Ten new MDiv students began their studies toward the pastoral ministry, six at Concordia Lutheran Theological Seminary, St. Catharines (CLTS) and four at Concordia Lutheran Seminary, Edmonton (CLS).

This year marks the 25th anniversary for CLS and two former presidents participated in the anniversary opening service. Rev. Dr. Milton Rudnick preached and Rev. Dr. Dean Hempelmann addressed the congregation. The service was webcast for the first time.

While the task force currently studying LCC’s preparation of pastors continues its work, both institutions give thanks to God for the generous support provided by members of LCC congregations. “Our seminaries don’t exist in isolation from the world,” noted LCC president, Rev. Robert Bugbee. “If your own costs have risen in the past year, so have those of the seminaries and their students, staff and faculty. Gifts to our seminaries now help ensure we have pastors in our pulpits tomorrow.”
