If you have material for The Canadian Lutheran, please send it to the appropriate editor as listed in the different categories below:

District news

If your story is about your congregation, circuit, or district, please forward it to the appropriate District News editor below. Please be sure to send a high-quality image file along with the article, as The Canadian Lutheran seldom prints stories without an accompanying photo. Try to aim for “action” photos rather than posed group shots. Please also be sure to send the photo in the highest quality available; images that are too small, or scans of copies, or of otherwise insufficient quality cannot be printed in the magazine.

Letters to the editor

Letters to the editor should be forwarded to the chief editor, Mathew Block, with the subject line “Canadian Lutheran letter to editor.”

National, International, Missions, and Education news

If your news is national or international in import, or regards one of LCC’s two seminaries or its college, please forward your story to the main editor, Mathew Block, with the subject line “Canadian Lutheran news.”

Feature articles

If your article is theological in content, or a longer factual account, we classify it as a “feature” story. Such stories can be Christian reflections on current events, teaching articles about our theology, discussions of contemporary culture in the light of faith, and more. Please see past issues of The Canadian Lutheran for more examples.

The Canadian Lutheran welcomes unsolicited submissions. However, it is important to note that The Canadian Lutheran is a small magazine and is therefore not in a position to pay for unsolicited articles. The Canadian Lutheran does occasionally solicit articles from particular authors (often those it has first become acquainted with through free-of-charge, unsolicited articles). In these cases, it provides a small honorarium to the author in thanks for her or his solicited contribution. However, in accordance with Lutheran Church–Canada’s (LCC) guidelines for the magazine, clergy contributions to the magazine are understood to be part of their ministerial work, and are therefore not eligible for financial remuneration from the magazine.

Please note: Acceptance of an article does not guarantee publication. As The Canadian Lutheran is the national publication of Lutheran Church–Canada, all feature articles with doctrinal content must go through doctrinal review to ensure fidelity to the Scriptures. As a result, authors may occasionally be asked to rewrite some sections of their article before publication.

The Canadian Lutheran accepts first-publication rights for all submitted articles (for both print and online versions of the magazine). It also reserves the right to reprint the article at a later date as necessary, and grants congregations of Lutheran Church–Canada the right to copy articles for parish use. All other rights revert to the author upon publication, but The Canadian Lutheran does ask a period of two months after publication in The Canadian Lutheran before the article is submitted to another publication for reprinting.

The Canadian Lutheran generally does not reprint previously published material for its feature articles, though this is not a hard and fast rule.

Please forward feature article submissions to the main editor, Mathew Block, with the subject line “Canadian Lutheran article.”
