Taking a journey to the cross

MIDDLE LAKE, Sask. – On April 3 members of Faith Lutheran participated in Journey to the Cross, an experiential walk that helped participants better understand the events in the last week of Jesus’ life.

Families of the confirmation class and the youth prepared various stations at which small groups of “travellers” stopped and used their senses to connect with the Bible story. Participants petted a donkey, smelled anointing oil and tasted olives in the Garden of Gethsemane, as well as hammering nails into a cross and taking a sip of vinegar.

At each station, costumed actors told the story of the event they were replicating. Everyone received a passport sticker at each station, 12 in all. Participants and about 65 travellers enjoyed the sensory and scriptural experience.
