What does God know about sex anyway?

MIDDLE LAKE, Sask. – Faith Lutheran’s youth group hosted a unique lock-in March 12 and 13, attended by 21 young people, including four from Warman, Saskatchewan including their pastor, Rev. Randy Heide.

This event was not just about pizza, movies and video games. The focus: who and what influences sexual choices during the teen years.

Presenter Bernice Keller, wife of Faith’s pastor Ken and mother of four, has taught Teen-Aid, a chastity education program, in northwest Saskatchewan for the past 11 years and spoken to thousands of teens in the process. Bernice shared from her experience in teaching and in raising three children through the teen years.

Friday evening began with some fun for the youth, while Bernice visited with their parents and presented “Parents, Teens and the Sex Talk,” giving new, insightful information on teen development, communication, society’s expectations and health concerns.

In the youth presentation, “Father of Truth or Father of Lies…Who Do We Believe?” the group discussed teens’ current beliefs about sex and looked at Scripture to discover God’s plan for sexuality. Further discussion centred on maintaining purity and setting limits and sticking to them.

Throughout the lock-in the group played Bible games organized by Faith’s youth leader Lyal Heidecker. “I think everyone’s favourite was miming charades of Bible stories,” reported participant Miranda Heidecker. “It was a lot of fun and we made new friends. We hope to hold another lock-in sometime in the near future.”
