District board continues search for new office

September 21, 2010 No Comment

REGINA – After looking at a feasibility study, the Central District Board of Directors opted not to move the district office to Winnipeg, where space exists in the Synod office building. With 61 of the district’s 95 congregations in Saskatchewan, the board believed any savings would be offset by additional travel costs. In addition, only one of the four office staff would be willing to move. Since the current location at 1927 Grant Drive needs major repair, the search continues for office space to purchase or lease in Regina.

Also at its May 10-11 meeting, the board noted that 2010 mission goals from district congregations (most of which have been submitted) total $822,000, down from $850,000 in 2009. At the end of March, the operating deficit stood at $76,225. The board has produced its 2009 district-activities report in-house and sent it to congregations.

This year the district will receive three pastoral candidates and two vicars from LCC seminaries, along with one candidate from Concordia Seminary, St. Louis and one DPS candidate from Concordia University College of Alberta. Rev. D. J. Kim will begin work as chaplain for the Regina Police Services and EMS in Regina.

The board appointed Rev. Harold Borchardt (Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, Winnipeg) as board member and vice-president of the Winnipeg Region, replacing Rev. Rod Buck, who has taken a call out of the district. The board extended a call to Rev. Daryl Solie (Prince of Peace, Regina) to be the next assistant to the president, replacing Rev. Sye Van Maanen, who accepted a call to another district. (Pastor Solie has since declined the call.)

The board stayed on for the district’s annual meeting, which followed.
