Conference on “Militant Secularism” to feature Anglican and Lutheran speakers

ST. CATHARINES, Ontario – Concordia Lutheran Theological Seminary (CLTS) will play host to a joint Lutheran-Anglican conference in October on “Militant Secularism: Its Cause, Cost, and Cure.” The day conference takes place October 16, and is open to the public.

Featuring two Lutheran and two Anglican speakers, the conference is a prelude to a regular meeting of the ecumenical dialogue between the Anglican Church in North America (ACNA), The Lutheran Church–Missouri Synod (LCMS), and Lutheran Church–Canada (LCC). Throughout the day conference, participants will hear from Rev. Dr. John R. Stephenson (Professor of Historical Theology, CLTS), Rev. Dr. Donald F. Harvey (Bishop Emeritus, Anglican Network in Canada), Rev. Dr. Joel D. Lehebauer (Executive Director, LCMS Commission on Theology and Church Relations), and Rev. Dr. Jonathan S. Riches (Dean and Associate Professor of Liturgics and Theology, Reformed Episcopal Seminary, Blue Bell, Pennsylvania).

The morning will begin at 9:30 a.m. with Matins, following which Dr. Stephenson will speak on “Greying Canadians and Americans Today: Products and Victims of the 1960s.” He will be followed in the morning by Bishop Emeritus Harvey, giving a presentation entitled “She’s Gone, Boy… She’s Gone.” Following lunch, Dr. Lehenbauer will address the conference on “Jesus as Culture Warrior? A Cross-shaped Strategy for Being Church in a Hostile Culture,” followed by Dr. Riches speaking on “Culture of Want, Culture of Ruin?” The event will end with Evening Prayer at 4:45 p.m. The full-schedule is available at CLTS’ website.

There is no charge for admission to the event, and lunch will be provided (with a free will offering being taken).
