25th anniversary of the Oromo Evangelical Church of Calgary

CALGARY, Alta. – The Oromo Evangelical Church of Calgary (OECC) is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. It started as a Christian fellowship in the basement of a Christian family, Adde Belayinesh Teshome and Obbo Ballis, around 2001. Later, the group began holding Sunday afternoon services at Foothills Lutheran Church, with permission from its leaders. By 2004, the fellowship was officially organized as a charitable institution.

In 2016, OECC became a registered charitable organization, creating a constitution that follows the doctrine and constitution of Lutheran Church–Canada (LCC). OECC follows Lutheran teachings and is committed to the authority of the Bible. The church is currently growing in both the size of its holistic ministry and membership.

The Assembly of Believers is the governing and high decision-making body in the structure of the OECC. This Assembly elects five elders to handle church administration. The Senior Pastor and an Assistant Pastor focus on the church’s spiritual activities.

OECC offers a variety of services and ministries, including Bible teaching, worship, prayer, hospitality and generosity, women’s ministry, youth and young adult ministry, children’s ministry, and family ministry. The church also helps children learn Christian values to raise them as responsible citizens. It manages several ministries, such as Family Ministry, Women’s Ministry, Youth and Children’s Ministry, and Outreach Ministry, as well as programs supporting refugees from different countries as a Sponsorship Agreement Holder institution, and other assistance services (services intended to address both spiritual and physical needs of a person).

OECC is celebrating its 25th anniversary grateful for the abundance of God’s grace and the support of LCC.
