Mission accomplie!

L’atelier sur la liturgie organisé par l’Institut liturgique luthérien francophone (ILLF) de l’Église luthérienne du Canada à Gitega, au Burundi, a atteint ses objectifs : renforcer la compréhension du culte biblique tel qu’il s’exprime dans le culte luthérien.  Le chantre de l’Église luthérienne du Synode de Missouri, Phillip Magness, a animé les sessions en utilisant l’ouvrage de l’ÉLC Liturgies et cantiques luthériens – Édition africaine (2023) auprès de pasteurs et de responsables laïcs issus de cinq Églises différentes du Congo (RDC) et du Burundi, les encourageant à adopter une liturgie commune.

Un aspect important de cette rencontre était de réunir les trois Églises luthériennes confessionnelles du Burundi autour d’un événement commun.  Un autre objectif de cette semaine était de faire découvrir la doctrine et la pratique luthériennes aux membres d’une Église pentecôtiste africaine présente dans quatre pays. Les missions francophones de l’ÉLC travaillent avec ce dernier groupe depuis trois ans, par l’intermédiaire de contacts au Québec, en collaboration avec Lutheran Heritage Foundation et Lutherans in Africa.

Quoique l’ILLF ne prévoit plus organiser de tels ateliers,  d’autres organismes luthériens en Afrique espèrent le faire afin de continuer cet enseignement important au sujet de la liturgie.

Mission accomplished!

The LCC ILLF-organized liturgy workshop in Gitega, Burundi has achieved its objectives of strengthening the understanding of Biblical worship as expressed in Lutheran worship.  LCMS cantor Phillip Magness taught the sessions using LCC ‘s Liturgies et cantiques luthériens-Éditions africaines (2023) to the pastors and lay leaders from five different church bodies in Congo (DRC) and Burundi, encouraging them to use a common liturgy.

An important part of the gathering was to bring together the three different confessional Lutheran bodies in Burundi for a common event.  Another purpose of the week was to expose members of an African, four-country-based Pentecostal church body  to Lutheran doctrine and practice. LCC’s French missions have been working with this latter group through contacts in Quebec for the past three years in collaboration with Lutheran Heritage Foundation and Lutheran in Africa.

Although the ILLF no longer plans to organize such workshops, other Lutheran organizations in Africa hope to do so in order to continue this important teaching on liturgy.
