Showers of Blessings: TogetherOne–Family

Central—What began as a rain-soaked disappointment became a beautiful reminder that God’s plans often unfold in unexpected ways.

Saint James Lutheran Church’s barbecue was rained out, sending everyone indoors to the church basement instead. What could have been seen as an inconvenience became an opportunity for closer fellowship. Gathered around tables rather than picnic blankets, conversations lingered, friendships deepened, and new connections were formed.

Among those gathered was a newer couple in the congregation. During the evening, a member, Bonnie Cleave and their pastor, Rev. Dr. Richard Beinert, took time to check in with them. This created a space where the couple felt comfortable to ask an important question: could they receive juice instead of wine at Holy Communion?

Rev. Beinert gently asked, almost instinctively, “Are you expecting?”

They were.

What might have remained an unspoken joy was lovingly received by their church family. In that simple conversation, God’s gifts were evident, not only in the Sacrament that draws His people to Christ’s table, but also in the fellowship that gives believers the confidence to share their lives with one another.

The rain may have changed the venue, but it could not diminish the blessing. Instead, it brought God’s people closer together, strengthened relationships, and allowed a growing family to be embraced by their brothers and sisters in Christ.

Sometimes the Lord sends showers not to spoil our plans, but to remind us that His blessings often arrive in ways we never expected.
