VBS Brings Generations Together at St. Matthew

Stony Plain, Alberta – From August 10–14, St. Matthew Lutheran Church hosted VBS SCUBA, welcoming approximately 80 children for a week of Bible learning, fellowship, crafts, games, and fun.

For many of the children, VBS is an opportunity to reconnect with school friends before the new school year begins. Some participants are members of the congregation, while others are grandchildren of members, school families from other churches, or children from the wider community. Many return, year after year, building friendships and relationships along the way.

This year brought a particularly meaningful milestone for the VBS team. Children of longtime VBS leaders—many of whom first began attending VBS themselves—stepped into leadership and helper roles. They served as group leaders, acted in opening skits, helped with Bible stories, planned and led crafts, prepared snacks, and led games.

What began years ago with children attending VBS has now grown into a new generation serving others through the same ministry.

As another VBS week came to a close, children, youth, and adults were reminded that the Word of God equips us not only for a week of learning and fellowship, but for a lifetime of discipleship and service. Strengthened in God’s Word, they return to their homes, schools, congregation, and community as God’s hands and feet in the world.
