Ordination/Installation Hymn by Rev. Marvin Bublitz
EAST – The Lord Our God Has Called This Man is an Ordination or Installation hymn penned by Lutheran Church–Canada (LCC)’s East Regional Pastor, Rev. Marvin Bublitz.
This uplifting hymn reflects on the joyous occasion of a congregation receiving a faithful pastor to serve in their midst:
“The Lord our God has called His man To serve His people in our land: Alleluia, alleluia Through Word and Sacrament to feed And comfort in all time of need. Christ has called him, our new shepherd! Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!”
The hymn then chronicles the life a servant of the Church, with emphasis on the Lord’s faithful work at every step, including Baptism, the proclamation of Law and Gospel, and the Lord’s Supper.
“‘Twas, at the Font He called him first; The Holy Spirit gave new birth. Alleluia, alleluia! Faith and salvation thus were giv’n, To this new child and heir of heav’n. Christ has called him, our new shepherd! Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!”
The hymn brings out themes of confession and repentance, the forgiveness of sins, and beautifully highlights how our Lord feeds and prepares His undershepherds, even through the very gifts He calls those men to administer to the flock entrusted in his care.
“With holy gifts both giv’n and shed The Lord Himself His servant fed Christ has called him, our new shepherd! Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!”
The hymn concludes with a final reminder that the Lord Himself has prepared this pastor for His Church.
Rev. Bublitz offers this hymn free for congregational use. The tune is Lasst uns erfreuen (LSB 493) (with Alleluias). The full text can be found here as a PDF and here in poster form.
