Reflections from our 2025 Summer Internship

CANADA – Lutheran Church–Canada (LCC) and Lutheran Laymen’s League of Canada (LLL-C) teamed up again to offer a paid, part-time internship opportunity this past summer. This year’s selected interns came from across Canada, bringing with them a diverse range of experiences and talents.

Internship supervisors Lisa Jackson (Managing Director, LLL-C) and Alex Steinke (Director of Communications, LCC) are grateful to the interns for their dedication and flexibility this summer as they tackled a variety of projects.

Our interns provide the following reflections on the past summer:

Tim Bayha (80% LCC | 20% LLL-C)

Over the past 2 months, I’ve had the joy of working as a summer intern for Lutheran Church–Canada and the Lutheran Laymen’s League of Canada. It has been a very enriching experience, allowing me to contribute to projects very close to my heart. 

A key focus was exploring how LCC might further support and equip our laity to identify and encourage future church workers, involving research, discussions and planning potential resources. I also supported the LLL-C in a project focused on engaging young men who find themselves new to Lutheranism. On the side, I’ve been working hard at updating congregation profiles on LCC’s ‘Find a Congregation’ website feature, one of our most heavily used tools. 

All of these projects have deepened my understanding of the needs and challenges we face as a church and have also strengthened my own sense of vocation and appreciation for the diverse ways God is at work amongst His people.

Luke Mayan (80% LLL-C | 20% LCC)

This summer, I had the opportunity to participate in the LLL-C/LCC summer internship program. Through my work with LLL-C, I researched how the organization could better support young men in the Lutheran Church, conducting a survey along with multiple short in-person and online interviews. These conversations allowed me to meet many wonderful, interesting people and make meaningful connections with others who share my confession of faith. For LCC, I worked on compiling the congregational prayer calendar. 

Working online and remotely was a new experience for me, with both benefits and challenges, but Lisa, Alex, and the LLL-C team were always available to support me and flexible with unexpected changes. Although the internship was short, I am thankful for the chance to grow my skills, learn about the important work of LLL-C, and gain insight into what it is like to work in the Church.

Anna Scheetz (100% LLL-C)

My internship was an incredibly gratifying and encouraging experience! I was given the opportunity to serve others by creating resources for planning and hosting a servant event. It was a fun and interesting project, and being an LLL-C ambassador at this year’s National Youth Gathering at the beginning of July helped give me some inspiration. I got to work with many wonderful people at LLL-C—it was a great experience to work with people who share my faith! As the summer winds down, I look back on my time working with LLL-C fondly, and I look forward with excitement to see how my work can be a blessing to others!
