Historic Fellowship Opens New Doors for Mission (Part 1)

The Philippines—The formal recognition of altar and pulpit fellowship between Lutheran Church–Canada (LCC) and the Lutheran Church in the Philippines (LCP) was one of the historic moments of LCC’s 13th National Convention in Winnipeg this June.

Representing the LCP were President Rev. Antonio Reyes and his wife, Arlene, who joined delegates as the two church bodies celebrated their shared confession of the Gospel and commitment to faithful Lutheran witness.

“We are deeply grateful,” Rev. Reyes reflected following the convention. “It was a privilege for us to take part in this milestone, which reflects our shared confession of the Gospel and our unity in the Lutheran faith.”

The fellowship affirms more than a formal relationship. It opens new opportunities for cooperation in mission, theological education, pastoral exchanges, and mutual encouragement between the two church bodies.

The convention, however, was only the beginning.

Following the gathering, Rev. and Mrs. Reyes travelled to Christ Lutheran Church in Neepawa, Manitoba, where they experienced firsthand how this growing partnership may strengthen local mission in Canada. More on the local mission opportunities in next week’s article.
