Celebrating Rev. Fritsche’s half-century of ministry

EDMONTON – In a momentous event that brought together congregation, family, and friends, Redeemer Lutheran Church in Edmonton celebrated the 50th ordination anniversary of their beloved pastor, Rev. James Fritsche on June 11. The joyous occasion marked a significant milestone in their pastor’s spiritual journey, and was a testament to Rev. Fritsche’s and Nancy Fritsche’s unwavering dedication and service to Lutheran Church–Canada (LCC).

The celebration commenced with a special afternoon worship service filled with music, prayer, and expressions of gratitude. Rev. Ralph Mayan, President Emeritus of LCC, delivered the message, and West Regional Pastor Robert Mohns recognized Rev. Fritsche on behalf of the Synod. Both of them thanked God for the service of Rev. Fritsche, his wife Nancy, and their children. Rev. Jonathan Kraemer (circuit counsellor) from All Saints Lutheran Church served as liturgist. The combined choir from All Saints Lutheran Church and Redeemer Lutheran Church graced the occasion with beautiful song. 

The atmosphere was filled with laughter, camaraderie, and an overwhelming sense of gratitude for Rev. Fritsche’s steadfast leadership.  

Following the service, the celebration continued with a reception of delicious dishes, dessert, and a celebration cake. During this time, the congregation and guests congratulated their pastor and shared warm memories. The concluding program was a tribute, in which Lonnie Ruecker served as the master of ceremonies. Terry Ann Diachok prepared a video presentation chronicling Rev. Fritsche’s 50-years of ordination, featuring significant milestones and transformative moments. Rev. Paul Shackel (LCMS) also shared Rev. Fritsche’s and Nancy’s journey to becoming faithful servants of God. The highlights of this closing program were a tribute to Nancy, a presentation to Rev. Fritsche, and a musical performance of his favourite country song, “Four Strong Winds,” by a few congregational members. 

As the congregation looks toward the future, they remain grateful for their pastor’s guidance and leadership and eagerly anticipate the many blessings that lie ahead.
