Donations to Wagner Hills, ministry for those facing addiction, benefit from matching grant

LANGLEY, B.C. – For the past five years, Wagner Hills Farm Society has been the beneficiary of a matching grant in the lead up to Christmas. This year, friends of Wagner Hills have put forward a matching grant of up to $525,000, giving the agency the opportunity to raise more than a million dollars for the continuation of its programs caring for those facing addiction.

“With this match in place, anything you give to Wagner Hills for the months of November and December doubles,” writes Jason Roberts, Executive Director of Wagner Hills, in a recent newsletter. “This money makes it possible for us to operate and allows us to purchase much-needed equipment for every area of our farms.”

Wagner Hills is a Listed Service Organization of Lutheran Church–Canada that has provided rehabilitative care for nearly 40 years to people struggling with addiction. The agency has two working farms in B.C.—one for men and one for women—where individuals seek treatment through “individual inner growth and through transformation to a live that is lived in line with Christian principles and beliefs.”

Participants in the program spend one year living and working on the farm, and benefit from classroom education and one-on-one mentoring, all in a faith-based environment. More than 5,000 people have benefited from this ministry since its inception.

“We thank God that across Canada in the in the Lower Mainland there are organizations that are seeing His Kingdom Come every day,” writes Executive Director Roberts. “At Wagner Hills we are passionate about our part. He came, He set us free, and He has given us a call to see others set free. That is why we work hard.”
