Free Seminar on Sharing Hope and Love Through the Struggle with Substance Use

GEORGETOWN, Ont. – The dual parish of Immanuel Lutheran Church and Risen Christ Lutheran Church will be hosting a seminar to equip those who seek to share hope and love with those who struggle with substance use. The seminar, on Saturday, September 12, beginning at 10 am, is free and lunch is provided, and registration is requested at the link below.

This is the first in a series of seminars Immanuel Lutheran intends to host under the banner of “Life Seminars,” and is focused on community education and service. The keynote speakers will offer honest insights into the realities of substance use, medical and practical counsel, and faith-grounded encouragement that points to the hope and love that Christ extends to all.

Rev. Robert Krestick (emeritus) will lead the seminar into a deeper understanding of the struggle with substance use and the Word of God as the spiritual resource. He has served LCC for over 50 years, and also served as a chaplain at Lutherwood Child and Family Services in Waterloo, counselling people with the message of Christ’s love and hope.

The Executive Director of St. Michael’s Homes in Toronto, Mr. Robin Griller, has led program development there since 2015, and represents community mental health and addictions on the Mid West Toronto and East Toronto Ontario Health Teams. His work includes creating the Toronto Community Addiction Team, directing the Mid East Toronto Health Link, and leading primary care for homeless men. He will speak on the nature of substance use and dependence, as well as the services St. Michael’s offers to individuals who are struggling, along with support for their friends and families.

CIMT College is a partner in supporting community education on substance use, and they will have a booth where attendees may learn about their Community Service and Addiction Workers program (CSAW) and other course offerings on community service.

On September 12, events will begin with registration at 10 am at Immanuel Lutheran at 89 Mountainview Road S in Georgetown, and the first of two mornings sessions will begin at 10:30. There will be a break for lunch, followed by two more sessions, concluding with a time for Q&A that will begin at 2 pm.
