Holy Week Greeting | 2026
As our Lord Jesus entered into Jerusalem amid the song of Psalm 118, His face was set not on the palm branches that hailed Him as the King of the Jews, but on His cross that would bring salvation to those who sang, and to the whole world. Holy Week is a similar journey for us. We cry “Hosanna” to the One who indeed has saved us from sin and death. And as we move through the week, our hearts are set not on the adoration of the crowds and the glory that comes from man, but on the glory of God that saves us from our sin and brings us into life everlasting.
Our servant Lord washed the feet of His disciples that they might be clean and then gave them His body and blood under the bread and wine of the Last Supper. On Holy Thursday this week we too receive His body and blood, having received His washing through Holy Baptism. On Friday, the crux of our faith is brought into sharp focus once again: the unjust condemnation, suffering, and death of the spotless Lamb of God who through His very death takes away the sin of the world. On Saturday, we keep vigil as we remember that God, having accomplished all His work, rested on the seventh day once again.
And then, on the first day of the new week, our long-restrained Alleluias ring out once more as hear the Good News: “He is not here; He is risen!” and as we praise the One who was crucified for our sins and raised from the dead, never to die again. Like the disciples on the road to Emmaus, our hearts burn within us as the Scriptures are opened and we receive the Word of God once again.
God bless all of you, dear brothers and sisters in Lutheran Church–Canada, as you journey through this holiest of weeks once again. The quiet meditations of Lent will give away to the resounding joys of Easter, and through His grace and mercy God will strengthen you in faith toward Him and in fervent love for one another.
Jesus Christ is the resurrection and the life, for you. Through His holy incarnation and blameless life, His bitter sufferings, His sacrificial death on the cross, His rest in the tomb, and His glorious resurrection, He accomplished all that is required for your salvation. By grace through His gift of faith to you, you receive the forgiveness of sins, salvation, and eternal life.
Christ is risen!
He is risen indeed!
Alleluia!
