Installation at Bethel Kitchener

KITCHENER, Ont. – From the summer climate of southern Brazil, Rev. Davi Schmidt and his wife Natacha arrived in Canada on Monday, January 30, to the refreshing temperature of -25° C. Welcome to Canada!

On the very next Sunday, February 5, the congregation of Bethel Evangelical Lutheran Church met for the service of Matins where Rev. Schmidt was installed.

The service had the participation of eleven pastors from the region, among them: Rev. Allan Scharlach, vacancy pastor and liturgist; Rev. Gilvan de Azevedo, who delivered the message; and Circuit Counsellor Rev. Andy Schroth, presiding on behalf of East Regional Pastor Marvin Bublitz. Vicar Connor Buck acted as crucifer.

The ceremony was blessed with the contribution of the Bethel Praise Choir and Frauenchor, both conducted by music director Nelly Scholtes. Additionally, a duet comprised of violin and trumpet was performed by Gertrud Morell and Ron Schatz, respectively. After the ceremony, there was a welcoming luncheon with coffee and cake.

Originally from Brazil, Rev. Davi Schmidt graduated from Concordia Seminary in São Leopoldo in 2010. He joins Lutheran Church–Canada from the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Brazil (IELB).

Organizers wish to thank all who helped with Rev. Schmidt’s installation and luncheon.
