LCC launches new Moving Assistance Fund

CANADA – Lutheran Church–Canada is launching a new Synod-Wide Moving Assistance Fund (MAF) to assist congregations in paying moving expenses when they call a rostered church worker or request a church worker such as a DPS Intern or Vicar.

The Moving Assistance Fund not only helps congregations when they need to move a church worker, it is also a way that congregations collectively help each other. When a congregation calls a new pastor, the MAF will generally pay for 50% of the actual moving costs incurred to a maximum of $7,500.

The new program is voluntary, and succeeds previous moving assistance fund plans operated by the former Districts. Congregations wishing to participate in the MAF program must apply. Member congregations of the MAF will be charged an annual assessment fee (currently $2.00 per communicant member, with a minimum cost of $300 and a maximum of $1,000).

While congregations may join the MAF at any time, applications for the initial start up are due by February 28, 2020. Congregations joining the MAF after this deadline will have a one-year waiting period before they can received assistance from the Fund.
