LCC Partners with Concordia University Chicago

NATIONAL – Two organisations. One mission: to provide education shaped by the Lutheran Confessions, irrespective of your desired vocation.

Lutheran Church–Canada (LCC) and Concordia University Chicago (CUC) have announced a new partnership affirming their shared commitment to Confessional Lutheran education and the formation of Christian leaders for service in diverse disciplines.

As a Confessional church body, LCC is committed to conserving and promoting the unity of the true faith (Ephesians 4:3-6; 1 Corinthians 1:10) and throughout its 262 congregations across three regions, one of its mandates is to encourage its members to live out their vocations in service to their neighbour. This new and exciting educational opportunity in a Christ-centred institution meets this need and preserves that goal.

As a comprehensive liberal arts-based Christian institution, founded in 1864, Concordia University Chicago provides this desired space and atmosphere. Through its College of Business, College of Education, College of Health, Science, & Technology, and College of Theology, Arts, & Humanities, Concordia-Chicago offers an array of degrees and programs for both undergraduate and graduate students that combine academic rigour with faithfulness to the shared teachings of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod and LCC.

LCC’s leadership emphasizes that this partnership broadens opportunities for young people, whether they are considering professional vocations in fields such as education, business, or the sciences, or exploring a call to pastoral or church work.

“It is the hope of LCC that such students in thought, word, and deed—to the glory of God in Jesus Christ and the good of their neighbour—will be a benefit to both the Church at large as well as the overall student body of CUC,” said LCC President Timothy Teuscher.

LCC’s synodical office is located in Winnipeg, Manitoba, one of Canada’s largest prairie cities, and the campus of Concordia University Chicago sits ten miles west of downtown Chicago in River Forest, Illinois, USA.

LCC is pleased to accept the invitation to recognize Concordia University Chicago as its “university of choice.” This advancement paves the way for students across the synod seeking a Christ-centred post-secondary or graduate education grounded in their Lutheran identity to earn a degree in the vocation of their choice.

“As institutions rooted in confessional Lutheran identity and dedicated to shaping Christian leaders, this partnership reflects our mutual mission,” said CUC President Russell P. Dawn. “We look forward to welcoming LCC students into our community and deepening relationships with a church body in altar-and-pulpit fellowship with The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod.”

Under the leadership of President Dawn, the university encourages students to share the gifts God has given them and answer the call to a life fulfilled by purpose and truth as it forms students for vocations in church, family, and the world.

The agreement provides meaningful support for LCC students pursuing a liberal arts and sciences education, including financial considerations such as tuition, room and board, and fee parity between U.S. and Canadian currencies, as well as exemption from international tuition rates.

LCC’s arrangement with CUC does not neglect its longstanding commitment to theological education through its seminaries—Concordia Lutheran Theological Seminary (CLTS) and Concordia Lutheran Seminary (CLS). In fact, the partnership complements these cherished commitments by strengthening pathways for students discerning vocations in church work. The partnership includes cooperative efforts to support students who may pursue further formation at these institutions.

In addition to academic pathways, the LCC-CUC partnership will strengthen cross-border relationships among students, faculty, and church leaders through shared events, communication, and collaboration.
