LCC Seminaries Set Dates to Announce First Calls Online

ONLINE – Lutheran Church–Canada (LCC)’s two seminaries have announced dates for this year’s Call Services which will be live-streamed again this year as restrictions to gatherings continue amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Concordia Lutheran Seminary (CLS – Edmonton) will offer its Sacred Convocation live online on Friday, May 28, 2021 at 7:00 p.m. MDT. You can watch the Sacred Convocation from home, live or by viewing the recording via their YouTube Channel. The live-streamed event will recognize one MDiv; three new pastors that have joined LCC by colloquy, as well as solemnize the Call through the installation of Dcn. Dr. Jennifer Frim as Coordinator of the Deacon Training Program and adjunct professor. The event will conclude with a closing worship led by LCC pastor, Rev. James Kay.

In a Facebook post, CLS expressed, “We thank God for His amazing blessings on CLS and her students as we navigated the 2020-2021 school year with all its challenges. Please join us as we celebrate and give thanks.”

Even though Sacred Convocation is an online event, CLS will still be collecting an offering. Offerings can be made by cheque or through their website. Online donations are accepted by credit card, debit card, or PayPal. Cheques can be sent to Concordia Lutheran Seminary, 7040 Ada Blvd. Edmonton, Alberta, T5B 4E3. A tithe of any funds designated for the Sacred Convocation offering will be donated to ethnic Lutheran ministries in Canada.

Concordia Lutheran Theological Seminary (CLTS – St. Catharines) announced that their annual Call Service will be live-streamed on Saturday, May 29, 2021 at 4:00 p.m. EDT.

“Because of current restrictions limiting service attendance to ten people, we have decided to forego holding the service in a local congregation and have relocated it to the seminary chapel,” the seminary writes in a release, “sadly, only the candidates and vicars will be permitted to attend the service.” CLTS invites others to join them in worship and prayer by watching the live-stream via their YouTube Channel.

CLTS announced that, during the online service, Markus Peschel and David Zakel will be certified for the holy ministry. Though Peschel will return to South Africa for his placement, David will be given his first pastoral placement in LCC during the service. Jason Gillard, Chad Miller, and Nigel Prozenko are scheduled to receive their vicarage placements.

CLTS has also announced that Rev. Dr. Ralph Mayan, LCC President Emeritus, has been selected to receive the Delta Chi (Servant of Christ) award, the seminary’s highest honour. Dr. Mayan has a long CV of service to the church, which will be shared when the award is announced.

Following the online announcements, The Canadian Lutheran will report the first calls for graduating pastors and vicarage placements.
