Looking Ahead to a Meaningful Gathering at Lutheran Church–Canada’s 2026 Convention
National—As anticipation builds for this year’s convention, many across synod are especially looking forward to a featured talk that promises to encourage, uplift, and inspire attendees within the synodical family.
Set against the theme Together One, the convention will provide an opportunity for fellowship, worship, and thoughtful reflection on matters of faith and daily living. Among the highlights of the gathering will be a special presentation titled “Koinonia”, to be shared by Rev. Dr. Alex Vieira, during Session 2 on Saturday, June 13 at 9:00 am.
The message is expected to explore the convention theme of ‘oneness’ in the Church, which is at the core of that New Testament word koinonia. Does it reflect mere social agreement as captured in the current understanding of ‘fellowship’, which koinonia entails? Dr. Vieira’s essay will examine this New Testament concept, connecting how it is used in relation to the Word, Sacraments, Gospel, and God.
“I hope delegates will carry away a Word-centred focus on unity. Our congregations are Together One because they share the same common treasure: Christ and His gifts. As we live in koinonia, we realize that because we share this vertical participation in God, we are necessarily bound to a horizontal life of mutual care, walking in the light together and sharing one another’s burdens as fellow-participants in the Body,” shares Dr. Vieira.
Throughout the convention, attendees can also expect moments of meaningful worship, informative sessions, and opportunities to connect with others in a spirit of unity and faith.
