Lord, Leave Me Not When My Strength Fails

Lord, Leave Me Not When My Strength Fails

1. Lord, leave me not when my strength fails,
As my hair greys and my flesh pales.
Forsake me not when I can’t stand;
Hold me in Your almighty hand.
Cast me not off in my old age,
But help me turn life’s final page.
4. When I feel like a burden, Lord,
Bring to my mind Your certain Word,
That if Your Kingdom I would see,
Weak like an infant I must be;
If Your green pastures I’m to roam,
Your Son must bear me safely home.
2. Behold me, Lord, when I can’t see,
Your watchful eye keep fixed on me;
Speak out to me when my voice faints.
Give comfort to my soul’s complaints.
Still turn to me Your Open ear,
And listen yet when I can’t hear.
5. O Lord, You’ve counted all my days
And have me in Your watchful gaze;
You’ve numbered each hair of my head
And sworn to raise me from the dead;
Be with me now throughout old age,
And see me past life’s final stage.
3. When my own mem’ry starts to fade,
Recall the promises You made;
When all my present thoughts don’t last,
But wander in the distant past,
When names of loved ones from me flee,
In mercy Lord, remember me.
6. Then to my bones give restful sleep,
And take my soul to where none weep,
Until Your Son awakens me
To live a life from sin set free.
Then give me joy in Your new age,
Where there’s no grey or final page!
